Trust friend, I'm completely engineering each ep to produce exactly this type of feedback. Rest assured that while my mouth can be sizable, I'm certainly no idiot. I deeply apologize for the tanking of the vocal quality, which is primarily the result of me upgrading Skype. We're working on a viable solution.

Thanks for listening.

Anyway this ep doesn't work correctly on my ipod at all. As soon as I start to get past the Hokuto No Ken segment it automatically rewinds to the beginning.

Please check into this Zeta.

I also feel the need to point out that the word is jackass. Not jack ass.

Tech support yourself before you wreck support yourself.

Basically, try re-downloading it. The file is probably truncated. Stupid server...

I redownloaded it (no easy task through iTunes) and it functioned within established parameters.

Tech support yourself is the most brilliant thing you've ever came up with.

W00t, I am mentioned.

Zeta is right about FF12, the model complexity and poly count are so high that it will look crappy on PS2's year 1999-2000 NTSC output. It's even sadder than FF12 doesn't have progressive scan like Resident Evil 4.

FF12's political plot is awesome. I heart gambit scripting.

Xbox was so forward-thinking to have HD formats selectable from the main menu on a 2001 system.

I'm surrounded by sports fans as well. Fantasy football is like role-playing game for sports fans.

A good DVD player makes a huge difference, even within the DVD format. Oppo FTW.

FFXII might actually need to be interlaced in order to get that poly count/resolution. If its only drawing every other line...

If the Xbox was forward thinking, then the Dreamcast was precocious as hell with its VGA support. (640p, more or less).

I think you mean 480p on Dreamcast. Which is pretty advanced for a console in 1999.

480p = 640x480 VGA at 60 Hz which is the VGA adapter.

Yeah, 480p, sorry.

I think you mean 1998, which was the JP launch of the DC.

It's taken me this long to listen to the episode?!? Sorry guys, was out on vacation and then my file was truncated like what Kaze mentioned in an earlier post.

And yes, I have a shitload of games. ;) My wife reminds me of that at every opportunity.

Go get your Gold account! And pick up Crackdown - you can find it used on the cheap through forums and whatnot - it's got a great online co-op mode.

Great podcast, as usual. Talk to you guys later!

My friends, I am currently in Osaka for 2 weeks (near Den Den town). I need advice on how best to empty my wallet. So far I have aquired:

Puzzle Series Vol. 5: Slither Link
Tetris Battle Gaiden
Mario's Super Picross
Bit Generations Dialhex
Goeman 2

Some recommended, but I have been unable to find, Guro Logic Champ

P.S. Yes I understand I can emulate all of these.
P.P.S. Surely you know of Levelator:

Portable games are heavily favored by me at this point. Might it be time to get a neo geo pocket?

Big ups to Tetris Battle Gaiden!

Yeah an NGPC is pretty cool and all, but it's a lot less fun when nobody you know even owns one. I'm looking forward to a NGPC emulator for DS.

Match of the Millenium FTW.

Also CardFighter's clash is better.
This new one has confounding card-fetch quests which have caused me not to finish it.

Most people can't even do a Raging Storm on a stick.

I can do chain raging storms and FABs on the awesome stick on the NGPC which is what he's referencing.

The reason I'd like an emu for the DS is because maybe it could play online with others instead of needing to link up.

The only person I ever knew with an NGPC aside from myself was Zeta who lived hundreds of miles away. I played it a lot in Japan with my two games, but if I had my modded DS back then, I probably would have liked that a lot more.

I'm just saying don't let these guys goad you into dropping hundreds of dollars unless you're really sure you want it.

Well, good GBA games that you might not know about:

Initial D (menu driven racing simulator)
Kururin (I think there are three of these. I have the second one, Kururin Paradise)
Horo no Puyo Puyo (Puyo Puyo with SD Gundam chara)
Super Robot Wars J (wait, if you listen to GFR you definitely know about this)
Mother 3 (I'm playing this awesome as hell game right now. Will discuss next GFR)
Stafi 3

ha! I almost bought Kururin Paradise because I thought It was guru logic champ. They both have similar fonts and blue birds in the art. It looks really neat and sort of reminds me of that GB game with a ghost blowing a bubble, except with a rotating stick. Has one of the Mother 3 translations finished?

The two Mother 3 translation teams have joined, so I patch should be out...someday. Probably 6-12 months away, IMO.

There are some pretty great guides on GameFAQs though, so getting stuck won't be a problem.

I'm going to cover Mother 3 in the next GFR because so far its totally wonderful.

From the Darkness

1. Hentai shooters rock.

2. I was never really that interested in FFXII so I have never played it. What you mentioned, especially regarding the gambit system, made me somewhat interested until you said that it plays like Star Ocean 2. I remember playing Star Ocean 2 for over 12 hours and being really bored waiting for the story to pick up. I quit the game shortly after that and that game made me set a shorter limit for how long I will be willing to play a game before I will quit due to a lack of interest; now, a game needs to catch my interest within at most 5 hours before I quit.

3. Browser Lock-in and not using web standards FTW. On a random note, I am messing around with virtualization again and I am now fairly satisfied with the performance of various virtualization programs on my current system. There are the odd Windows programs that I sometimes need to use and I also like to know if my little programs work under Windows. Launching a Windows XP virtual machine has made things a lot more convenient for me as opposed to rebooting my machine and booting into Windows XP. Just to note, I am using VirtualBox. I love the new seamless mode that was incorporated in version 1.5.0.

And they died. That's it.

Well Star Ocean 2 hooked me right before I left for Japan, so I sadly never finished it. It was goddamnable hard from what I remember, but I spent sooooo many hours crafting.

Anyway 12 has the typical FF walk-around-the-first-town-and-not-do-anything-that-great time, but it comes after the initial storytelling/playable cool part.

Then things pick up again and I was pretty addicted until the 360 came and smashed my livingroom.

I must get back to it, I just feel I have failed as a person in some way.
